EASTCONN Adult Education offers several options for completing your high school education. Our programs help you earn your diploma through a variety of methods that build on the skills and experience you already have. And all of our programs are convenient and offered free*of charge. 3 Diploma Options: One is right for you!
1. The Connecticut State Diploma - General Education Development (GED):
This classroom-based course prepares students to pass the State of Connecticut administered General Educationsal Development (GED) Exam. Writing, Math, Science, Social Studeis, and Reading are covered in the curriculum. The course is designed to offer students age 16 or older an alternative route to earn a CT State High Schol Diploma. Individuals ages 17 or 18 must submit documentation that they have been withdrawn from school for at least six months prior to the exam, or that the class they entered ninth grade with has graduated. Preparation and testing is available in English or Spanish. La preparación y la prueba de GED está disponibles en inglés o español.
2. Adult High School Credit Diploma:
This program offers students options for high school completion. In addition to granting credit for classroom courses and distance learning, students (16 and older) may be awarded credits for a variety of life experiences, such as military service and various vocational training. An EASTCONN High School Diploma is granted upon successful completion of the program.
3. National External Diploma Program (NEDP):
This program porvides an alternative for adults who have gained skills throught life experiences and demonstrated competence in a certain area. The NEDP is a portfolio assessment program that offers no classroom instruction. An EASTCONN high school diploma is granted upon successful completion of the program.
EASTCONN Programs through CT Works
21-st -Century Customer Service Skills Workshop (CT Works Danielson & Willimantic)
Are you a job-seeker looking for an edge over other applicants? Sign up for this free workshop and learn valuable skills that will help you get a job. This is a 15-hour, 6 session seminar in customer service skills training. You will be awarded a certificate on completion and encouraged to sit for the National Retail Foundation online exam for customer service skills certification.
Math Skills Workshop (CT Works Danielson, Willimantic, Norwich & New London)
EASTCONN's Math Skills Workshop will help workers develop the math skills needed to enter training programs and/or pass employer entrance exams. The workshop's five modules are: Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals, Measurement, and Ratios, Proportions and Percents.
Education Refreser (ER) (CT Works Danielson, Willimantic, Norwich & New London)
A Program for job seekers who need a quick refresher in basic skills - reading, writing or math, English language skills, or a high school diploma.

Other Adult Education Programs:
Get with the BEAT (Out-of-School Youth):
This high school completion/employment program for eligible out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 21, is funded by the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board. The program is designed to assist eligible out-of-school youth who want to move from high school drop-out to high school graduate, to advance from unemployed to gainfully employed, and to enter post-secondary programs. A case manager will work with participants to help them overcome barriers that prevent them from being successful in school and in the workplace.
EASTCONN Transitions to Post Secondary Program:
This program will help EASTCONN adult education students navigate the post secondary maze and successfully enter college or training programs that will increase their earning potential. Students will also have the opportunity to prepare for college courses with computer skills and academic college readiness courses.
English as a Second Language (ESL):
Instruction is designed for adults who have limited proficiency in the English language. Instrucitonal emphasis is on listening and speaking, but reading and writing are also included. The classes are small to allow for active participation.
Citizenship Classes:
This classroom-based program provides preparation and instruction to foreign born adults who wish to become American citizens.
Adult Basic Education Classes:
ABE classes are offered for students to work individually with the classroom teacher on basic math and language skills. Instructional levels range from beginning literacy to pre-GED readiness.
Family Literacy:
EASTCONN partners with Headstart to provide a family literacy program. Windham Parents and families with ESL needs are targeted.
Workforce Preparation: This program allows participants to explore avenues toward entry or re-entry into the workforce. Computer skills, career exploration, basic skills acquisition, ESL competencies (where applicable), and employability training provide the foundation for this course. Upon completion, participants will have created a career portfolio.
Workplace Education: This is a partnership between EASTCONN Adult Education and local employers to create curricula that will improve the English, reading, math, and language skills of their employees. Customized programs can be created for specific employers. Train the trainer program is also available. Call to find out how we can bring our programs to your place of employment.
Volunteer Literacy Tutuoring Program: Volunteer tutors work with adult learners on basic reading, writing, math or English-as-a-Second Language skills.
Volunteer Literacy Tutors Wanted: Volunteer tutors in basic skills reading, writing, and math needed for Windham and Danielson area EASTCONN Adult Education students. Training provided. Please contact Cindy Chester at 860-779-3770 for more information.
EASTCONN, QVCC & Math:
In an effort to help adult learners obtain the post-secondary education necessary to pursue higher-paying, in-demand careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), EASTCONN Adult Education has forged a new collaboration with Quinebaug Valley Community College (QVCC). Thanks to that collaboration, EASTCONN will now offer several new math classes aimed at preparing its Adult Credit High School Diploma Program (CDP) students to "test out" of developmental math classes at QVCC. Students in EASTCONN's GED and External Diploma programs may also audit these math classes, as may those member-town high school graduates who meet one or more of the following criteria:
a) have never taken a high school Pre-Algebra or Algebra course:
b) have earned a C or lower in a Pre-Algebra or Algebra I class: or
c) have failed Algebra II.
EASTCONN will also be offering a new College Experience course for both CDP and auditing students.
