Description Workshop description: Poetry is perfect to use when teaching students to visualize, infer, make connections and notice author\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s craft. Even if poetry is not your favorite literary genre, you will discover the power of poetry within your literacy lessons after attending this presentation.
 
Objectives As a result of taking part in this workshop, participants will:
  • Learn ideas for using poetry to prepare students to answer open-ended items that require inference strategies.
  • Receive plenty of handouts including a list of resources and ready-to-use seasonal and thematic poetry lessons that motivate readers to deepen their thinking and move beyond the text.
  • Discover how to use multiple poems on the same topic to teach students text-to-text connections and author's craft.
