Aquaculture: Old McDonald Had A Fish

Description Workshop attendees will explore the relatively new discipline of aquaculture as they follow the cycle of a trout from fertilized egg to breeding adult. Participants will visit a trout hatchery and observe the processes by which the hatchery maintainers reproduce over 850,000 trout per year. Participants will leave this workshop understanding the biotic and abiotic requirements that these salmonids need to be farmed as a renewable resource in our country.
 
Objectives As a result of taking part in this workshop, participants will:
  • Learn the life cycle of a trout.
  • Apply farming techniques to production.
  • Identify suitable habitats and conditions for release of trout in the wild.
