ELL Strategies for Classroom Teachers - Tier 1 Instruction

Description This workshop provides a basic understanding of the different stages of language acquisition and the learning attributes related to those stages. We will discuss specific learning needs of English Language Learners at the different stages. We will then explore many approaches and strategies to be utilized by any grade or content area teacher in Tier 1 instruction. Sheltered English methods will be discussed. This workshop will meet Title III statutes requiring Professional Development for all staff on strategies for instructing ELLs. This workshop will also meet the Elementary Reading CEU requirement.
 
Objectives As a result of taking part in this workshop, participants will:
  • Understand the levels of English language acquisition
  • Understand the academic difficulties faced by ELL students
  • Explore strategies to be used in a regular classroom (Tier 1) that will help make the curriculum comprehensible for the ELL student
