Required* CMT/CAPT Skills Checklist Training 2008-2009 School Year

*Special education teachers that will be administering the CMT or CAPT Skills Checklist during the 2008-2009 school year that have not received CSDE training during the 2006-2007 or 2007-2008 school years nor the CSDE-Certified Rater Training provided in January and February of 2008 must receive this REQUIRED training prior to test administration in March of 2009.
To meet the high demand for training sessions, we are providing these initial sessions for the 2008-2009 school year during the summer. Additional sessions are being scheduled for the fall of 2008 on a limited basis.
The CMT/CAPT Skills Checklist is Connecticut’s alternate assessment for special education students with significant cognitive impairments. While reflecting on the combined vision of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), it promotes high expectations, uniform standards, and public accountability. It is linked to the Connecticut Framework: K-12 Curricular Goals and Standards, and provides an accountability measure to determine the extent to which students with significant cognitive impairments have participated in and benefited from grade-level general education curriculum. The CMT/CAPT Skills Checklist supports instructional decisions to improve students’ access skills, language arts skills, mathematics skills, and science skills.
In order to improve academic and social outcomes for students with significant cognitive impairments, and meet federal and Connecticut assessment requirements for students in grades 3 through 8 and 10, participants will:
  • understand the identification process for Connecticut’s alternate assessments — the CMT/ CAPT Skills Checklist and the CMT/CAPT (MAS);
  • understand the alignment between Connecticut’s general education performance standards and the Skills Checklist essence statements and downward extensions;
  • understand the Skills Checklist procedures, the rating scale, acceptable prompts, cues, and response options, and Web-based resources;
  • understand the online registration and submission process for the CMT/CAPT Skills Checklist; and
  • use assessment data from the Skills Checklist to plan instruction and monitor student progress.
